Conferences that ended the First World War according to newspaper Ati/İleri (January 1919–April 1920)

With the end of World War I, while the world was leaving an era of both destruction and full of suffering, a brand-new era began in the beginning of the 20th century in which international relations will be reshaped in order to evaluate the consequences of the great war and to build a new world order. Thus, the Paris Peace Conference was the first major international conference convened to build this new order. In this conference, when is starting on January 18, 1919, and ending on January 21, 1920, peace treaties was negotiated with the central imperial powers of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire, and other countries that are waging in the war. The establishment of the League of Nation was also decided at this conference, and the principles of the it. Following the Paris Peace Conference, the Conference of London was held between February 12 and April 10, 1920. This conference was convened to address the issues that could not be resolved at the Paris Peace Conference and ensured the continuity of the Paris Peace Conference. At the conference, issues such as the division of the lands belonging to the Ottoman Empire, the borders of Türkiye, and the territorial claims of Greece were discussed. The last meeting held after World War I was the San Remo conference which took place between April 18-26, 1920. Just like the Conference of London, the San Remo Conference was taken place in order to finalize the issues that could not be resolved in London and the peace treaties that had not been finalized. The most important development at the San Remo Conference was undoubtedly the preparation of the peace treaty to be signed by the Ottoman Empire. For this reason, the process of the Ottoman Empire leading to Sevres is also briefly mentioned. In this study, the process from the convening phase of the Paris Peace Conference to the end of the San Remo Conference is discussed and evaluated chronologically according to the Ati/Ileri newspaper. How the series of conferences in question, which closely concerned and even shaped the world history, was reflected to the Turkish public by the Ati/Ileri newspaper, and the opinion of the public to the current developments were analyzed.
