The effect of waste aluminium sawdust reinforcement on the carbonation of concrete

Abstract (EN)

Increasing population and developing industrial technology has caused rapid growth of waste materials. These materials must be recycled in order to minimize the environmental damage of waste. The goal of this study is to improve the properties of concrete and to contribute to the prevention of environmental pollution by using waste aluminium sawdust in concrete. In this study, aluminium sawdust were added to the concrete series with replace 0-2 mm aggregate as 0.50 % and 1.00 % to the total volume and 9 different concrete series were produced for three different water cement ratios of 0.40, 0.50 and 0.60. The produced concrete series were cured in the curing pool for 28 days, placed in the carbonation tank and subjected to accelerated carbonation test in three different time periods; 1 day, 3 days and 7 days. Experiments of compressive strength, tensile splitting strength, ultrasound transition velocity and carbonation depth measurement were carried out before and after carbonation on the concrete samples extracted from the tank. The samples that were not subjected to carbonation were compared with the samples subjected to carbonation. As a result, when the concrete series with aluminium sawdust in different ratios were examined, it was determined that the increase in the amount of sawdust decreased the compression, tensile splitting and ultrasound values of the concrete and increased the and carbonation depth values. Carbonation in all concrete series increased the compressive strength, tensile splitting strength and ultrasound transition velocity of the concrete slightly.
