Effects of coutilration of waste marble powder and glass fiber additive on the mechanical properties of concrete

In this study, the porosity and the ultrasonic pulse velacity of concrete samples of 100 mm x 100 mm x 100 mm were determined. The water-cement ratio of these samples was 0,63 and they consisted of glass fiber with doses of 300 and 350 and varying addition rates of 5, 10, 15 and 20kg/m3. Waste marble powder was added to the samples at ratios of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% to replace low volume material (0-0, 25). The compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of the samples were studied as well.The study shows that an increase in glass fiber content led to an increase in posity as well as a decrease in ultrasonic pulse velocity. A decrease in the compressive strenght of the samples was also observed. However, while the splitting tensile strenght of the samples with up to 15kg/m3 of glass fiber was enhanced, the samples with 20 kg/m3 of glass fiber manifested a decline in splitting tensile strenght. Despite this decline, the splitting tensile strenght of these samples was still enhanced compared to that of the control sample.It has been observed that the addition of marnle powder has counteracted all the undesirable effects that glass fiber can bing about. Especially in concretes with an addittion of 75% marble powder, an average enhancement of 21,87% in compressive strenght has resulted.Key words: Concrete, glass fiber, marble powder, compressive strenght, splitting tensile strenght
