Case study on the situation of employees who got their professions by the apprenticeship training at the ceramic and pottery ateliers

Ill ABSTRACT CASE STUDY ON THE SITUATION OF EMPLOYEES WHO GOT THEIR PROFFESSIONS BY THE APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING AT THE CERAMIC AND POTTERY ATELIERS Avanos has been one of the most important pottery production centers in Anatolia througout the history. Though the starting time of pottery production could not be precisely determined, the production is still going on effectively in Avanos. This craft has been progressed with regard to aprenticeship-master relations similar to other sectors of business. The progress has been provided by masters, transferring their knowledge to apprenticeships through out the time. The aim of this study is to search the situation of the people in the sector who have been practicing this throughgoing craft in Avanos. Craft term, independent from the subject, having its own properties in production and setting its own scope of view, forms its own production and progress line in societies. Pottery in Avanos preserving the naive and simple features, could succeed to save its standards without being exposed to change a lot. The classical Avanos pottery has aimed to improve without loosing its featues in spite of the problems that have arised periodically in regards to the production, sale, tradition and education lines. Goverment has established the Proffesional Training Instution in Nevşehir affliated to the Ministry of Education to increase the standars of the sector and to provide progress in the ceramic and pottery. However the institution established for training masters and apprentecehips has been insufficient to achive its establishing aims becouse of two reasons; first the benefits and functions of the institution culdn'd be understood and the second reason is the lack of interest of the community. By the same time there is a ceramic divison effective in the Industry and Craft School in Avanos with a few attending students to mention about.IV The works of the masters and apprenticeships working in the ceramic ateliers in Avanos, the methods and the features used by masters through the training of apprenticeships, the way the ateliers are operated s are the subjects of tins study. In addition to this, the contributions of the ceramic training provided in the region by Industry and Craft School in Avanos and Professional Training Instution in Nevşehir to the traditioanl Avanos Pottery is also examined. In this scope, the situation of the practicers of the pottery craft in Avanos which is fighting to maintain its features with the master-aprrenticeship relation will be examined.
