Abstract (EN)

The question concerning Sarmatians who put an end to the sovereignty of theScythians spreading almost all lands we call Eurasia and the identity of these nomads is one of the most frequently debated subject inhistography. The emerging point of these nomadic horse tribes which can be claimed to have a type of confederation structure was Inner Asia. The joint movements of this tribal confederation and their activities in the west of Eurasia outstretched a long period of time and consequently a high nomadic-horse (step tribes) culture was established. Alans and the As were among the tribes in the Sarmatian confederation. The As have been considered as part of Alans in nearly all studies conducted so far and there is no separate study on them. Moreover, studies on Alans contain Persian theories, thus include some prejudices. However, the wide range of sources make it available to produce healthier theses. We aim at objectively evaluating the Alan and As peoples, their history and ethnic contact in the light of these historical sources. Such a study conducted on Eurasian nomads will undoubtfully contribute to better understanding of the dark periods of the history of Turks and scrutinizing the ethnic processes (specific to Caucasia).
