The effects of the rise of European extreme right on migration policies: The Netherlands case

Migration can be handled with the birth of mankind and if it is defined in general terms, it is the actual displacement of people from one place to another, temporally, permanently, voluntarily or compulsively. European countries, which suffered great destruction due to the wars of the 20th century, have begun to recieve immigration in order to overcome this destruction and to regroup. However, the wafe of migration that began this way has increased further through family unification. Immigrants, who were not allowed to enter Europe in this process, started to enter European countries illegally and this constituted a problem for Europe. Especially with the oil crisis in 1973, the immigrants were faced more strict regulations. For immigrants and asylum seekers, this situation became very distressing. Member states of the European Union have tried to control foreign borders with joint agreements against asylum seekers and migrants at this point. In addition to these, the transformations in the immigration policies created by the extreme right which have recently started to rise in Europe have become quite interesting. Immigrants have been viewed as a security issue, especially because of the security concern that followed the Cold War. Therefore, this situation has been used by the right-wing parties to try to pass on the hard politics towards immigrants. As a matter of fact, the recent increase in the votes of ectremist parties also summarizes this situation. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the transformation which extreme right parties create on the immigration policies and the political gain of the extreme right through Xenoohobia on the case of the Netherlands. As a method, literatüre review, contents analysis as well as national and international newspaper archives are used and country reviews are given.
