Abstract (EN)

This thesis posits that the European Union (EU) common foreign policy has been ineffective and inadequate concerning the intervention in the crisis in Yugoslavia as of 1990 and the subject matter is assessed duly in the specific context of Srebrenica genocide. Stating that the ineffectiveness of the EU's common foreign policy towards the region caused the war in B-H between 1992 and 1995 to result in genocide, it maintains that the EU is directly responsible for this process. Investigating the approaches, policies and in/actions of Germany, France and Britain before and during the genocide as members of the EU and the United Nations (UN) which actively partook in B-H while genocide in Srebrenica took place, it holds that they are the actors responsible for the genocide in Srebrenica, after Serbia. Upon such backdrop, it first provides a summarized literature review on the concept of genocide, to be followed by a descriptive account on humanitarian intervention. In this context, it provides background information on the development of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and discusses its role in the crisis in Yugoslavia. Subsequently, criticizing the results of the common acts of the EU and the UN in the region, it inquires their acts ending up in genocide.
