View of ngos towards European Union negotiation process

Civil society dates back to ancient times and confronts us a conscept open to discussion and never out-of-the agenda of all times. This concept have been established by different progresses in parallel to political and social developments in european countries. Societal developments have been reflected on Turkey by the process of democratization in Europe, hence, concept of civil society gained an important place in the country?s agenda.Despite legacy of Ottoman State?s strong central organization narrowens civil society field, civil society components gained placed in the country?s public agenda by transition to multi-party system in Turkey after 1946. Civil society gained importance again in the agenda of country by beginning of the relationship between Turkey and EU with the application of Turkey for the European Economy Community (EEC) in 1959. Civil society has placed itself in the agenda of Turkey through the framework of Kopenhagen Criteria, which was set by EU as a prerequisite for joining.After civil society became important in Turkey, civil society ingredients started to become clear by different reorganization types. We face civil society in Turkey as association, labor unions, labor organizations, citizenship initaitives and foundations. These organizations play an effective role in EU negotiations.This study investigates roles played by different organization at civil society in the process of accession to EU and role of civil society in this process will be evaluated.
