Abstract (EN)
Developing a common policy among the Member States regarding immigrants and asylum-seekers through the founding and subsidiary treaties of the European Union, establishing a common policy and close cooperation with the Member States regarding this issue is of primary importance for the future of the European Union. However, the European Union has not reached a position of establishing a common migration and asylum policy and ensuring stabilizing this policy yet. In 2015, the immigration crisis, which occurred at an unexpected level, caused many problems in the external borders of the European Union. There are a variety of reasons for these problems. It has become quite significant how effective the current European Union border information systems are and in what areas they are inadequate in terms of migration management. Throughout history, people have migrated for several reasons. In different places and times, unpleasant developments will continue to be the reasons forcing people to migrate all over the world. The question is how prepared the Union is for the next migration crisis. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze currently used information systems in order to protect the external borders of the European Union and to identify the drawbacks of these systems. In this study, the effects of these systems on migration management will be evaluated and solutions will be sought to offer by taking various statistics into consideration. The issue that makes this study important is the lack of a detailed study on this matter in Turkey. A comprehensive border information system is of great importance not only for the European Union but also for developing of immigration and asylum policies for all states. I also found out in my study that homeland security and freedom within the borders can be assured on the condition that entrances of refugees and asylum seekers are taken under control and their ties with terrorism are cut. For this reason, information systems in external border security are significant not only for EU but also for that states that attach importance to their border security.
