The European Union (EU) renewable energy policy

In this study, it is evaluated why renewable energy and its sources are important in energy consumption. As a method, literature and archive studies were examined. Since the subject is up-to-date, attention has been paid to the use of ''current data and resources''. After the 1970s, with the effects of the energy crises, there was a movement in the fields of renewable energy sources and the European Union (EU) has been a pioneer in this field. The European Union has set targets to meet its energy needs and increase its share in energy production. Countries have also applied for policy incentives to achieve energy targets and supported practices/programs in this field. The amount of energy produced from renewable energy sources is lower than fossil fuel sources. However, the fact that it is not of fossil origin, that it is less harmful to the environment than fossil fuel sources, and that it has advantages such as being able to renew itself continuously makes renewable energy different/important in the ''alternative energy'' category. Renewable Energy Policies of the European Union ; Renewable Energy Resources, Directives, Council Decisions have been examined in the light of reports published by International Organizations and the contents of national legislation have also been included in the study.
