The future of the Western Balkan countries according to the economic and energy policies of the Europe Union

Globalization; has transformed the understanding of the nation-state by affecting economic, cultural and social areas. The European Union (EU) integrates 27 member states; however, harmonizing different socio-cultural structures presents both opportunities and challenges, especially in relations with the Western Balkans. Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Kosovo, located in the Western Balkans, are advancing in the EU membership process at different stages. Yet, this process is occasionally disrupted by structural issues such as ethnic tensions, corruption, and political instability. These issues can become obstacles to the full integration of Western Balkan countries into the EU, as these countries must meet stringent criteria in areas such as democracy, rule of law, and human rights. Despite these difficulties, the EU supports the reforms and eventual accession of the Western Balkan countries and aims to create the necessary conditions for these countries to adapt to the EU countries by promoting transformation processes in the Western Balkans. Economic integration is progressing within the framework of the Western Balkans Growth Plan, which aims to accelerate the development of the region. This plan includes elements such as strengthening harmonization with the EU's Single Market, encouraging regional cooperation and increasing financial assistance. At the same time, issues such as energy security, use of renewable energy and infrastructure investments stand out as important components of the integration process. The integration of the Western Balkan countries into the EU will not only increase economic cooperation but also contribute to ensuring stability and peace in the region. However, the success of this process depends on the EU and the Western Balkan countries ability to continue their mutual reform efforts. In the long term, this integration is expected to strengthen Europe's democratic values and support regional development.
