After the Industrial Revolution, energy has become a primary element regarding the development of states. In particular, oil, natural gas, and coal carry a strategic value for states to ensure their development. However, given that these resources are limited and not to be found within the borders of all states, and further the difficulty in accessing energy resources increased the worries of states about their energy security. The European Union is one of the most dependent regional powers on energy resources and therefore wants to guarantee the security of supply. Energy security is indispensable in the security context of the European Union. The EU mostly satisfies its energy need through Russian and North African natural gas. After the 2008 Russia-Georgia War and the Ukraine Crisis, the EU concerns about energy security augmented and the EU sought ways of alternative energy resources. From this point forth, in this work, the term of energy security is addressed, and particularly by examining the EU politicies on energy security, it is endeavoured to shed light on this term. Moreover, for the sake of establishing the energy security, the status and importance of the South Caucasian natural gas, which is assumed as an alternative to the Russian gas, are highlighted
