State politics directed to muslim minority in europe and factors which affect this politics: The case of France

In this master thesis, which factors mainly play role in the embodiment of the state politics affecting Muslims in the minority position in European countries in a direct or indirect ways and state politics embodied by these factors are examined. While making this study, an approach from the general to the specific is adopted; at first exposing conditions in European countries in general terms, later a detailed and comprehensive study on particularly France is made.The main argument of this thesis is that negative perceptions and ?othering? directed to Muslim citizens and Islam play dominant role in state politics embodiment of European countries and specifically of France. Unless this condition change, integration politics? directed to Muslim minority in Europe seem difficult to be succeeded.The Muslim minority who live in Europe increase gradually each year. The increasing number and the presence of the Muslim minority in Europe bring about a lot of arguments related to concepts and subjects which are minority, radicalism, terrorism, laicism, racialism and xenophobia, othering, multiculturalism, integration,assimilation. Even though this arguments lead to positive changes in state politics of the European countries directed to the Muslim minority, first of all of France and many of European countries do not access radical changes in state politics which affect integration process of the Minority. Islam and the Muslims are the ?dominant other? as it was in the history and the same today. So, state politics directed to assimilation rather than integration, monoculturalism rather than multiculturalism yet protect its popularity. Its most concrete example is the state politics in France.
