Abstract (EN)

The ideology of the extreme right, which placed itself again on the legitimate ground of Europe as of 1980s, has an influence in all areas in the 21st century as well. The European Identity gained by Europe after long efforts is now being eroded by the ideology of the extreme right. Especially racist and xenophobic attitudes that emerge especially in terms of migrants and Muslims appear as an unavoidable problem and they are used as election materials by the parties of the extreme right. Parties of the extreme right, which have experienced a dramatic increase in their votes in recent years, are increasingly influencing the society, and they fuel the feelings and fears of society by resorting to populist discourse against the problems faced. They also criticize the integration policies of the European Union and the changing nation-state structure. The aim of this thesis is to reveal the concepts of right and extreme, the factors in the rise of the extreme right, the territorial characteristics of the parties of the extreme right and the measures and activities of the European Union regarding the extreme right. In addition, answers were sought for questions such as follows in this thesis: "What are the main factors underlying the rise of the extreme right?" and "Are the policies of the European Union successful at their struggle with racism and xenophobia?"
