Abstract (EN)

In this study, mineralogical-petrographical and geochemical characteristics of the volcanic rocks of Ayaş region, located in NW of the city of Ankara, in Galatean Volcanic Province were determined. This area start with Permian-Triassic aged metamorfites. Jura-Cretaceous aged white and pink colored semipelajik cherty limestones overlies these units unconformably. Lower-middle Miocene aged unconformably precipitated in the lake and ıt has the same age with volcanics. The structural and mineralogical differences of the basalts which belong to these volcanisms were determined. This basalts classified as spilite basalts and olivine- pyroxene basalts The alluvions is at the top and the Upper Miocene aged lies below them and has a horizantal layering. This formation consists of clayey, sandy limestone and marn, and also gyps.Opals present in the tuffs of the volcaics are the evidence of intence siliceous process . These opals have the potantial to be used as gemstone.
