Abstract (EN)

The immigration waves from rural to bigger cities which was started from early 1950?s, have brought significant social problems. The most demonstrative example of those problems are the structure of the cities, urban life style and presence of squatter settlements surrounding urban area in cities like İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir. This situation has created people, living in urban places but not urbanized. Those who had not being integrated into the city life or those who prefer not to adapt into the center of urbanized life creates social polarization and a matter of big concern for the future. The purpose of this study is to determine the social, economical, cultural and similar differences by comparing people that are integrated and those not-integrated to urban life. We are interested in finding out to which steps does integrated people have passed, and find out the reasons of failure of the non-integrated migrant population. Two different sample groups were chosen for the study.KEYWORDS:Immigration, urbanization, integration, urban integration/non-integration, urban sagragration, ghetto.
