Özet (EN)
In this study, the composting process of both mixed and only organic municipal solid waste, that reach the amount of 14 000 ton per day in İstanbul, will be discussed comperatively. Moreover, the effect of source seperated on composting process will be evaluated. RO, stands for the reactor, in which the organic parts of municipal solid wastes are composed and RK stands for the reactor which is used in the composting process of mixed municipal solid waste. Wastes, whose feedstocs are reactors, are provided from I.B.B Composting Plant. The composting process had been completed within 8 weeks. In the beginning of the process, pH, electrical conductivity, water content, organic substance content, ammonium nitrogen and total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), heavy metal content, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and C/N ratio ; In the samples that are taken per week, pH, electrical conductivity, water content, organic matter content, COD; In the leachate that is produced within process, pH, electrical conductivity and COD; ın the product of under screened that is made at the end of the process, in order to determine the quality of the product, pH, water content, organic matter, TKN, and ammonium nitrogen, heavy metal, COD and C/N, phytotoxicide analysis, foreign matter characterisation, Salmonella test are installed. The pH values of the products , that are made out of RO and RK reactors, are as follows: 7.83 and 7.85; Water content is 20% and 33%; organic substance content 26% and 21%; TKN 7900 (mg/kg) and 5000 (mg/kg); NH3-N 59 (mg/kg) and 62 (mg/kg) and C/N values are admeasured as 12 and 15.Heavy metal values of compost samples, that are made out of the reactors, are as follows: (for RO and RK respectively) Mn 453; 572 mg/kg; Cu 155; 128 mg/kg; Zn 567; 352 mg/kg; B 48; 53 mg/kg; Cd 0.83; 1.36 mg/kg; Pb 84; 634 mg/kg; Ni 105; 96 mg/kg; Cr 222; 99 mg/kg; Co 10; 99 mg/kg.In the phytoxicite tests that are held up till now, the phytotoxicite values of %25 and %50 mixtures of RO are: 92% and 86%; the phytotoxicide values of 25% and 50% mixtures of RK are 90% and 84% respectively. The results of phytotoxicity tests show that all the end products are in non-toxic class of the relevant standards. In the compost samples taken from each reactor, Salmonella sp. is not seen and it is confirmed that the samples provide hygiene conditions. The composting process of solid waste materials as source seperated is greate important in maintaining high qualified product and in saving time, money and labour that are used in order to seperate mixed materials at composting plants.Key Words: solid waste, source seperated, composting, quality of compost
