Abstract (EN)
In this study Ayvansaray's existing or destroyed cultural heritage (current and legacy) from Roman, Byzanthium, Ottoman and Republic era is analysed by using written and visual publications as well a personal observations. The Thesis consist of eight main sections including introduction and conclusion with appendix EK-A and appendix EK-B. In the introduction 'Literature Review', 'the aim and objectives of the thesis' and 'hypotesis' are stated. Then in the second part under the headline of 'Ayvansaray's Physical Data'; Ayvansaray's geographical location and accessibility in the historical Peninsula is established. 'Ayvansaray's Historical Data' section consists of; the elements affecting the development process of Ayvansaray's historical identity under the sub headlines of 'before Eastern Roman Empire Era', 'Roman Empire (byzanthium) Era', 'Ottoman Empire Era', 'Republic Era' and its 'Social Cultural Structure' (Balat Jewish Community and Lonca Gypsies). The third section under the title 'Ayvansaray's Urban Texture Characteristics' within the Historical Maps of 19th and 20th Century' presents the 19th and 20th century historical maps, its historical streets and neighborhood. The headings 'Ayvansaray's Land Walls and Golden Horn (Haliç) Walls' and 'Ayvansaray's Land Walls and Golden Horn Gates' detail those walls and gates geographical location, architectural specifications, and repairs done. 'Blahernai Palace Complex and Excavation Works' focus on Tekfur palace, the remains of Blahernai Palace, and excavation for Mumhane Walls. 'Ayvansaray's Religious Buildings', 'Water structures in Ayvansaray' and 'Ayvansaray's Educational Buildings' refer to their location, general architectural specifications and repairs done. 'Cemetry of Ayvansaray' adresses muslim and non-muslim cemeteries. 'Ayvansaray's Historical Vegetable Gardens and Tannings' subtitle is about these mentioned areas' conditions in the 20th century which do not exist today. 'Ayvansaray's Golden Horn Coast Buildings (standing and destroyed ones)' determine their condition in the 19th and 20th centuries. 'Golden Horn Bridge (3. Haliç bridge between Ayvansaray and Halıcıoğlu)' analyses the construction process of the bridge. The fourth section entitled 'Urban Texture Analysis' provides the analytical maps, generated using the visual data collected between October 2012 - 2014, plotted on 'Political Maps Scaled at 1/1000 Existing Maps'. Evaluation of analyzed maps with text and photographs is considered in 'Evaluation of Analyzed Data' subtitle. The 'SWOT Analysis Tables' and 'SWOT Analysis Maps' (Problem Areas) - (Recommendations) for the working area are submitted in the fifth section. This work is done by crossmatching Ayvansaray's historical data with the author's personnal observations on current existing buildings and open space areas'. 'Political Maps Scaled at 1/1000 Existing Maps (2001 - 2002) and 'Fatih Municipal Public Works and Urban Developments Directorate's 1/1000 Scaled Application Construction Plans Analytical Survey Sheets Based on 2012 Data About Ayvansaray' is presented the actual maps about Ayvansaray. 'Ayvansaray's Historical Sites Preservation Assessments' is drawn by reclamation of Ayvansaray's current status with the concept of historical site preservation. The maps prepared for 'Preservation Area' are issued from 'Fatih Municipal Public Works and Urban Developments Directorate's 1/1000 Scaled Application Construction Plans Analytical Survey Sheets Based on 2012 Data'. The completed rehabilitation project between 1998 - 2003 in the neighborhood of Ayvansaray is cited as 'Fener - Balat Rehabilitation Project' is discussed at sixth section. 'Between Fener - Ayvansaray and Coastline Renovation Project' is still into the project stage and more talk about it under the above title. 'The Renovation Project Covering Blocks 2672 -2867 - 2868 - 2869 in Ayvansaray District' (also known as 'Tokludede Renovation Project') which is already applied and the related work is discussed under the above title. Within the seventh section; 'General Assestments Based on Existing Data', 'The Recommendations of the General Assessments' and 'Photographic Plots' titles talks about the attributions of the constructions and open space and the recommendations within the pilot proposal of the study (2870 - 2880 - 2885 - 2888 - 2891 Numbered Blocks) in Ayvansaray. In 'the Map of Pilot Proposal of the Study Consist of 2870 - 2880 - 2885 - 2888 - 2891 Numbered Blocks' presents the recommendations based on existing constructions and open spaces within sections of those blocks are presented in situation plan which is processed by using '1/1000 Scaled Numeric Current Map'. Within the pilot proposal's working area; in related to the buildings on Ebe Sok. - Eğrikapı Fırını Sok., Sakalar Yokuşu Sok, the silhouettes expressing current situation and recommendations are presented. Besides, in between Çedik Pabuçlu Sok. and Ebe Sok.; the sections passing the dead end streets and Mumhane Walls are captured and submitted. Section eight is 'Conclusion and Recommendation'. In this point the findings, general assesments and recommendations within the field of study are discussed. Within the Appendix-A section under the title 'Pervititch Map, Fatih Municipality Construction and Urban Development Affairs Conservation Planning Zoning Plan Analytical Survey Papers in Fatih District (2011) and as a Result of Comparing The Current Photographs Related to The Buildings in Ayvansaray', inventory forms prepared for the structure that are required to be submitted to the registry are presented.
