Abstract (EN)

In our study, by analyzing the place names in Azerbaijan and Turkey, the characteristics of the place names, the most important factors when giving place names, how the place names have changed throughout history have been revealed. At the same time, by analyzing the language of place names, sound and structure features were tried to be determined. In our study, the history, geography and grammatical features of both countries are analyzed, and place names, the most valuable treasure of the language, are discussed. The materials used while giving place names give us information about the history, heroes, important people, geography, vegetation, animal kingdom of that period. In this study, the history of Azerbaijan and Turkey in the old period, the middle period and the new period is examined and the geographies in which they have settled throughout history are analyzed, and how the place names have changed according to the periods is revealed. The fact that Azerbaijan and Turkey are located in a common geographical region and have a common culture throughout history has led to similarities in many areas, including place names and their names. Since they were settled in a common geographical region, the language spoken by people, names of people, professions, beliefs, vegetation, animal kingdom were also similar to each other and this led to similarities in place names. However, over time, different historical events that both countries have experienced and the influence of different countries on them and their languages have manifested themselves in place names. For example, Turkish words have been influenced by Chinese, English, Persian, French, Arabic, and Persian in different periods of history, but mostly by French and Arabic, while Azerbaijani Turkish, which was part of the Soviet Union, has been influenced by Persian, Arabic, and Russian throughout history, but mostly by Russian. It is inevitable that the languages that Turkey Turkish and Azerbaijan Turkish are influenced by also affect place names. This has led to the emergence of differences in place names. In the last part of our study, this issue was emphasized and the similarities and differences between place names in Azerbaijan and Turkey were determined.
