Abstract (EN)

Antimicrobial resistance is a serious threat to human health worldwide. The cost of bringing a new antibiotic from discovery to market is high and the return on investment is low. In addition, the development of new antibiotics has slowed dramatically since the golden age of discovery in the 1950s. Plants produce a variety of bioactive secondary metabolites that could be used to fuel the future discovery pipeline. Many studies have focused on specific aspects of plants and plant natural products with antibacterial properties. The aim of this studys is to isolate and identify Pseudomonas aeruginosa from appropriate burns and wounds, swab samples and study this important bacterial pathogen, To study antibiotic resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa using the VITEK 2 system, To investigate the antimicrobial activities of three solvent extracts of selected Iraqi plants against multi-resistant P. aeruginosa isolated from burns and wounds. The results show a synergistic effect between the methanol extract and the antibiotics tested. The antibiotics that have shown the highest lethal effect on P. aeruginosa bacteria are amikacin, gentamicin and ceftazidime, respectively, Using the disc diffusion method, the ethanolic extract of Ficus sycomorus bark showed the highest activity against P. aeruginosa. The minimum inhibitory concentration results showed that all the plant extracts tested had antibacterial activity against P. aeruginosa, the plant extracts had different synergistic abilities to inhibit the growth of microorganisms depending on the extraction method, the extract of C. citrus showed a synergistic effect with all the antibiotics tested, but the extract of Ziziphus spina-christi showed antagonistic activity with most of the antibiotics tested
