Fundamental paradigms of security and foreign policy of the Turkmenistan after independence

Turkmenistan that earns independence from Russia after the disintegration of the Soviet Union has strategic importance because of its natural resources. But the flawed political structure has incited to seek reliable security and foreign policy and adopt "the permanent neutrality" status for its political system. Therefore the permanent neutrality status is the hallmark of the foreign policy of Turkmenistan. Requirement of this status, Turkmenistan tries to follow peacefully relationship and avoid from military blocs and international organizations by enhancement of economic and political bilateral relationship. So this policy is called "the positive neutrality status". Bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and regional states has been limited during the period of Saparmurat Niyazov after independence until 2006. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who came to power in 2007 tried to develop these restrictions in his time. Especially the establishment of strategic partnerships, about energy and transportation field has contributed significantly to the development of these relations. In this context, Turkmenistan's foreign policy may summarize as the developing bilateral and multilateral relations, especially in the economic and political field, through international organizations. In national security term, it's obviously clear that Turkmenistan depends on international community by positive neutrality politics.
