The effect of aging on the Al-Si cast alloy with Cu before and after ecap process

In this study ECAP (Equal Channel Angular Pressing) application on the two different Al cast alloys (ETIAL-177 and ETIAL-220) and Al-5Ti-1B master alloy have been investigated. After ECAP process the hardness of Al cast alloys and master alloy were increased. Optical microscope investigations show that the grains of casts were elongated on the ECAP direction. The effect of Al-5Ti-1B and aging process on the cast alloys, before and after ECAP was determined. It was thought that the intermetallic phases in the master alloy could be cracked during the ECAP process and therefore contributes grain refining of basic alloy more than without ECAP process. The experiments show that master alloy with ECAP increased the hardness more than without ECAP. Aging process was more effective before ECAP then after.KEYWORDS: Al-Si cast alloys, ECAP process and Al-5Ti-1B master alloy
