In this study, the corrosion effect of new generation wood preservatives was investigated on metals. Copper Chromium Boron (CCB) and Boric Acid (BA) was used as wood preservative. The corrosive effect of CCB and BA solutions prepared at different concentrations were investigated on most common stainless steel types such as AISI 304, 316L and 420. In addition, the corrosion behaviors of the wood preservative solutions in 3,5% NaCl media was examined. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Tafel polarization methods were utilized to measure the corrosion effects. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy-Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS) were also utilized to examine the metal surfaces exposed to the wood preservative chemicals. In generally, resistance of metals increased with the increasing concentration of CCB which indicates a corrosion inhibitor behaviors. The BA, on the other hand, reduced the resistance of metals with increasing concentration. Thus, BA showed a significant corrosive effect on the metals used in this study.
