Investigation of the current situation of walnut nursery propagation in Bandırma district

In our country, walnut farming was made from seeds for years. In the 1970s with the beginning of tree grafting investigations, grafting sapling began and since then grafting has been continued intensely in the district of Bandırma in the neighborhood of Sahil Yenice. According to the data of 2017, it is seen that 76% of the production of the walnut sapling is made in the district of Bandırma. This study was performed to observe the current situation of technical and socio-economical aspects in the district of Bandırma, this study was performed with 61 people in person that is registered in the Information System of Bandırma Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and made soil analysis (nematod and Synchytrium endobioticum). When the data is evaluated, it is seen that 87% of the producers are located in the neighborhood of Sahil Yenice. It was detected that almost all walnut saplings produced in Bandırma were Chandler and Fernor that grafted on J. Regia seedling rootstock using wipe grafting and bud grafting in sapling production. According to grafting success rate compared with the techniques, respectively 86% and 83%. The majority of produced saplings are bare root and yellow certificated. 88% of the producers declared that the saplings are their breeding stick plants and they export almost 43% of produced saplings. 58% of people who are trying to produce sapling are high school and above graduated, %67 of producers are young and it shows that walnut production is in a sustainable position.
