Comparision of financial performance of participation banks in banking sector:The example of Turkey

Abstract (EN)

It is the financial sector that maintains the economy of the country and it is the banks that provide the balance in this sector. Participation banks are becoming more and more powerful in this sector. Participation banks, which is widespread in the world, not only in Islamic countries, also now has a permanent place in Turkey. In this study; the definition of banking concept, philosophy, features, history, occurrence causes, objectives, services, types, funding sources and uses of participation banks, besides, its effects on the economy and its problems are mentioned. Performances of five participation banks operating in Turkey are compared. The comparison involves the years 2010-2017. In this range, data from Association of Participiation Banks of Turkey of the five banksa re obtained for rations. The analysis is completed with 28 selected ratios using the Topsis Method in the analysis. As a result of the analysis, the banks are ranked according to their scores. The bank with the highest score is in the first place and the bank with the lowest score is the fifth. Keywords: Financial Performance, Participation Banks, Topsis Method.
