Abstract (EN)

In the financial system, it is of great importance in what aspect and how effectively banks use their resources. The disruption in the bank balance sheets, which has become evident especially in times of crisis, unveils the effects of the crisis. Hence, the comparative determination of which banks are effective or ineffective during periods of crisis is significant in terms of bank management and financial system. The current study was carried out to compare commercial banks in the Turkish banking sector during the 2001 banking crisis and 2008 global financial crisis periods, and data envelopment analysis was used within this context. In the present study consisting of three sections, a comprehensive literature review and evaluation is done in the first section, while information about the analysis method to be applied in the second section is provided, and in the last part, various findings are presented by performing the application. When the data used and the results of the analysis analysed are evaluated, it reveals that the banks with foreign capital were more effective in the 2001 banking crisis than the banks in other capital groups and that the banks with public capital were more effective than the banks in other capital groups in the 2008 global financial crisis.
