The risk management at banks and the evaluation of operational risk durations; an approach focusing on banking training

In recent years, the fluctuations based on operational risk at banking sector and as a result of these fluctuations the great loss in the sector has increased the importance and the currency of operational risk management. Although the operational risk is known as the oldest kind of risk, it has beeen considered as the least important one when comparing with credit and market risk. After the great loss in the sector, it is vital that there should be team work, colloboration and new arrangements. Especially the arrangements of Basel Banking Committee about the operational risk management has showed its effect not only in Europe but also in Turkey.With the thought of keeping up with these arrangements and benefiting from the developments , the need of training in operational risk management is obvious. For this reason the quick adaptation duration for BDDK's. Studies in Turkey and the arrangement of the Banking Law numbered 5411 are important. And this rapid adaptation can be made with the increase in the number of the studies related to operational risk management and the quality of the current studies.By the help of the survey carried out among the bank managers and the bank chiefs, it has been proved that the employee do not have adequate knowledge about the operational risk management. The 58.3 percent of the staff haven't had a training about the operational risk management. In conclusıon the need of training related to operational risk management is essential in Turkish banking sector.
