Barışın inşası ve anlaşmazlık çözüm süreçlerinde başarısız barış antlaşmaları: Mali cumhuriyeti örneği (2006-halen)

Scholars have constantly analyzed the conflicts resolution mechanisms in Africa and see conflicts in the continent as one of the complex factors that weaken her socioeconomic and political development, and any solution to strengthen the continent's peace and security would require resolution processes, peacebuilding, and effective mechanisms to manage conflicts. Conflicts are of a distinct type and the nature of any conflict need to be determined in order to aid mediators or the international community with what mechanisms to be employed in its resolution. Scholars view the Malian conflict with a historical eye suggesting that the conflict has brought attention to the African nations, but its history and culture are largely unknown to most outsiders. In order to fill this gap, this study aims at defining Mali's crisis in its cultural and historical context, and then identify the possible reasons behind the failure of the past peace accords in the course of bringing back the absolute peace in the country. The main research question of the study is: "Why did the peace agreements fail in the peacebuilding and conflict resolution processes in Mali?" Because of the intergroup nature of the conflict, the study suggests, in the frame of social psychological theories, that the peace accords give little attention to the role of social/group identities in the conflict, – the mediators in the conflict resolution process failed to manage the identity issues in the conflict. The data collection method utilized in the study is the qualitative method, which helps to gather adequate knowledge about the values, opinions, and social contexts Malian citizen involved in the Malian Conflict.
