The causes of non-use of barter system in Eskişehir: A research in Eskişehir Industrial Zone

Nowadays, the enterprises not only are competing with each other but also with the tough economic conditions as well. Current conditions increases the financial costs for the companies and causes complications in sustaining the operations. As an alternate method of funding and trade, barter is an option for those enterprises which having dificulities in sustaining operations with the traditional methods of finance. Barter system, which provides opportunities of trade and funding without the usage of cash, is a developing and recognized method through the recent years in Turkey but still out of use in Eskişehir.In this study, it is aimed to determine the reasons of underdevelopment of the barter system in Eskişehir, to find solutions for determined problems and offering an option of trade for the enterprises. The study suggests, despite the lack of advertisement and prensentation of the system by the barter enterprises, there is stil an interest in the city about the system which is not dependent on the sector that companies operates or the scale of them. It is also stated in this study that the main reason behind the disuse of the system in the city is the negligence of the barter firms. The suggestions for the future of the system in Eskişehir are also in the context of the study.
