Abstract (EN)

In this research it is aimed to analyse having breakfast and nutrition habits of 18-24 years old female students who were being educated in Baskent UniversityResearch was tried out in March-June 2005 on 300 university students educated at Baskent University. Data analysed by using SPSS 11,5 and BEBIS programs. Descriptive statistic, khi-square or Ficsher?s exact test, Student t test or Mann Whitney U test, repeated measures variance analysis or Friedman test are used in statistical analysisBreakfast is the most skipping meal. 60,7% of students are having breakfast regularly and 39,3% are skipping breakfast. BMI of breakfast eaters and skippers are respectively; 21,5±1,71 and 23,9±1,05 kg/m2. Although BMI of breakfast skippers is greater than eaters, energy intake and physical activity level is lower than eaters (p<0,001). It is determined that breakfast eaters? energy, protein, total fat, saturated fat, dietary fiber, tiamin, riboflavin, folic acid, vitamin B6, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, magnesium, copper intake are significiantly higher than skippers? (p<0,001). But breakfast skippers? milk, grain, fruit-vegetable consumption amounts are lower than eaters? (p<0,001When breakfast is omitted, dietary fiber, tiamin, riboflavin, niasin, folic acid, vitamin B6, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium requirement cannot be supplied in the rest of the dayAs a result, it is determined that breakfast provides the important part of daily recommended intake of energy and nutrients. It is possible to mention breakfast skippers are nourished more inadequate than eaters. It should be keep in mind breakfast eating is very important matter in adequate and balanced diet.
