The effects of family reading- beliefs on reading motivation of the beginner-levels

The aim of this research is to examine the effect of family reading beliefs to the initial level of readers' motivation. The research was conducted according to the descriptive research model. In this study, simple random sampling method was chosen from random sampling methods. 282 primary school students and and their parents have formed the samples of the research. In order to determine the parents' reading beliefs in the study, a reading belief scale, adapted by Çetin, Bay and Ali Sinanoğlu (2014) to Turkish, and a reading motivation scale, developed by Öztürk and İleri (2011),to determine the reading motivation of the initial level readers have been used. The parents' reading bliefs scale has been applied to the parents at first week of school. The reading level for the beginner level and the reading motivation scale were applied to the students and teachers in the second term of the same education year. According to the research, the level of parental reading beliefs' and the initial readers' and the motivation level of initial readers are high. As a result of the fact that the effectiveness of teaching is positive for reading competence and the initial level of the resources required for reading is influenced by the readers' motivation to read.
