Abstract (EN)

Pressure vessels are used extensively in houses, industrial buildings, power plants. They contain potentially dangerous substances as they allow the transport, storage and transfer of fluids under pressure. For this, codes and standards have been developed in the world for the design of pressure vessels, especially in developed countries. In this thesis, firstly basic information about pressure vessels is given and previous works including comparison of pressure vessel codes are explained. Then the basic design rules for pressure vessels according to ASME Section 8 Division 1, ASME Section 8 Division 2, EN 13445 and AD 2000 codes are given, which are the most used in the world. After that, an air tank with specific design conditions and geometrical properties was calculated according to 4 codes by using a sample application and minimum wall thicknesses were determined according to three different head types (elliptical, torispherical and hemispherical) and their weights were calculated according to these thicknesses. Thus, it is aimed to select the appropriate code for the design of the pressure vessel for engineers and researchers working in this area and to benefit from the design of the lowest cost vessel in the desired features.
