Abstract (EN)

This study was a descriptive study of press history and labour relationships which analyzed the journalistic life of Suat Derviş in 1930s when she prepared a series of interviews of which subjects were mostly social issues and the labour relationships of journalists who were the white-collar workers at the same time. Starting to work as a reporter in Alemdar newspaper in 1920, Suat Derviş went to Germany for education in 1925. The articles of Suat Dervis were published in numerous newspapers and magazines in Germany, and her novels were serialized. The author, who was present in various literary and art communities in Germany, experienced a mental transformation influenced by this intellectual wealth. This transformation that Dervis experienced was reflected in her journalistic activities. The author presented studies that typified socialist realistic approach both in the field of literature and journalism after the 1930s. When she returned to Turkey in 1932, as a "dissident journalist", she prepared a series of articles for the newspaper that she worked for about the problems of the women, children, the unemployed, workers and the homeless. When Suat Derviş's interview titled "Istanbul-Moscow-Tehran" was published in the newspaper Tan in 1937, the spokesmen of political power of the time and his journalist colleagues accused Derviş and the newspaper Tan of being "communist" and making "communism" propaganda. Following the criticism that communism was praised in the interviews of Suat Derviş, the owners of the Tan newspaper dismissed Suat Derviş from work with the concern of shutting down of the newspaper. After dismissal from Tan newspaper, Suat Derviş could not find any opportunity to do a similar journalism any more. The distinctive features of the newspapers such as İkdam, Son Posta, Cumhuriyet and Tan that left a mark on the career of the author were emphasized in the study. Some of the article series that she prepared in Cumhuriyet and Tan newspapers were presented as the samples by referring to the publishing policies of these newspapers, Keywords: Suat Derviş, White-collar Journalist, Freedom of the Press, Labour Relationships of Journalists.
