The presentation of drugs news on media

One of the most significant problems that occupies the country in recent years is "drugs" issue. Within fight against drugs, a great deal of activities are done in our country. Drugs proliferation and the role of media on fight against drugs are tackled in many studies in literature and are discussed in various details. However; In this descriptive post graduate study, the question with the drugs issue of how being presented on media is searched for an answer. In this context, content analysis had been applied to themed news on drugs that was carried in the last three years ( January 1, 2013 - December 31, 2015). In the study among the news of the first 5 newspapers that have the highest circulation in Turkey (Hürriyet, Posta, Sabah, Sözcü and Zaman); 357 news, determinated with systematical random paradigm, had become the topic of application. In this study three general questions where searched: how the drug took place at the media, which elements were included in the writing content and how visual elements were used. The fact that the findings obtained in this context are mostly published on the police-judicial pages, that they are moderately important, origin of the news given as reporter, the information/news sources ara not clear, news had a tendings to panic awakening/sansational and promotive/attention grabbing, it has been determined that in the news content mostly the type of drug or addiction, operation or economic, commertial dimensions are emphasized, often only a single photograph is used, in which drug or famous person are displayed.
