The education and teaching problems of West Thrace Turkish society

West Thrace is a geographical region where was left to Greece by Reconciliation Pact in 1923.Under the subject Pact, the Turkish residences living there considered as Greece citizens and in statue of legal minorities. The community which reflects the characteristics of Turkish socio- cultural structure, has continued its existence till the present with population of around 150 thousand. Policies aiming the migration and assimilation of the Turks are still applicable in an antidemocratic manner for all areas of the life by the State of Greece. In this research,education was examined which has a significant function on socio-cultural structure of Turkish society in West Thrace.Greek officers apply strict control on Turkish schools.They are not giving work permission to the teachers who are coming from Turkey and they are appointing their selected persons.Altough West Thrace Turks are Greek citizens, they are not selected for officials and those young Turks who have been highly educated in Turkey are not given jobs. To remove Turkish presence at West Thrace, recently the use and writing of the word ?Turk? has been forbidden.The use of ?Muslim minority? instead of ?Turkish minority? is being encouraged. I wish that the Greek Government puts aside their little plans like this between the rights of the Turkish minority as accorded by the agreements.The permanent peace and unity of Greek citizens will only be possible by this way.
