Evaluation of drum training videos from teacher's opinions

The purpose of this research is to evaluate drum training videos in terms of teacher opinions. Study is aimed to determine how adequate the drum training videos are according to the opinions of the teachers, to offer suggestions according to the current situation in line with the technical and methodical suggestions received. Mixed method, in which both qualitative and quantitative methods are used together, was used in the research. Questionnaire technique was used as a data collection tool in the research. A total of 20 teachers from 11 different cities, who provide drum training in formal education institutions and private music courses, participated in the research. A "teacher's opinion evaluation form" consisting of 14 drum training videos progressing from simple to complex was applied to the teachers, who were the study group of the research. There are 5 questions for each of the 14 videos in the form. The first 3 of them are aimed at determining how understandable the training video is, the effect of the training video on the playing technique, and how compatible the exercises shown with the subject described in the training video. The 4th question aims to obtain the techniques or methods suggested by the teachers, and the 5th question aims to obtain the general views of the teachers about the video. Quantitative data of the study were obtained by frequency and percentage analysis of likert type questions in the "teacher opinion evaluation form". Qualitative data were obtained by applying content analysis to the open-ended questions in the form. Video titles are drumstick grip and hand technique, drum stick selection, body and drumstick position while playing, where on the drum head should be hit and sound differences according to the play, metronome usage and exercise with metronome, playing according to note values, single beat (single stroke), double stroke, paradiddle, bassdrum pedals and pedal use, pedal exercises and basic rhythm exercises, coordination exercises Part 1, coordination exercises Part 2, coordination exercises Part 3 and basic rhythm exercises. The titles are constitute the subjects to be determined by teacher opinions. In the conclusion part of the research, it was concluded that the drum training videos were generally useful and sufficient in accordance with the opinions of the teachers. Teachers stated that the exercises should be done from slow to fast without haste, that the metronome should be used and counted loudly at the same time and "Stick Control for the Snare Drummer", "Progressive Steps to Syncopation", "D52 Drum Method" etc. can be used as a method suggested by teachers.
