Abstract (EN)

It is aimed to determine the sedimentologic and geotechnical properties of Battalgazi (Malatya) campus area by conducting field, laboratory and office studies. As the field studies, a total of 105 standard penetration tests (SPT) were made and 15 undisturbed samples were collected following 15 drillings. Then, a total of 90 pressuremeter tests (PMT) were carried out in the drill holes. Additionally, 15 observation pits were opened in the field and undisturbed and disturbed samples were collected from the pits. Finally, geophysical investigations including seismic refraction, seismic tomography, MASW surface wave and vertical electrical sounding tests were carried out in the field. A number of experiments were carried out in the laboratories to determine the physical and mechanical properties of undisturbed and disturbed samples taken from the field. Determination of grain size and shape were made on the disturbed samples and direction of paleocurrent was made on undisturbed samples as part of sedimentologic studies and determination of provenance was made by calculating statistical parameters of grain-size. At the end of the field and laboratory studies, the collected data were used to calculate or evaluate the bearing capacity of the soil, settlement and liquefaction properties of the study area. The area mainly composed of clayey sand was described lithologically as hard-very hard and slightly plastic consistency. By utilizing SPT data, the bearing capacity was calculated in the range of 233-563 kPa. Bearing capacity was higher in the south and west of the study area. Settlement was between 23.54 and 27.35 mm. According to the Liquefaction Potential Index (LPI) calculations, liquefaction risk is expected.
