Özet (EN)

The main aim of this study is to determine the contact relationship between the Menderesmassif and Neogene sediments, to reveal of the Neogene stratigraphy, to clarify of thetectonic properties that produces the stage of the graben formation and shed light on theneotectonic evolution of Bayındır (İzmir) area.Western Anatolia is one of the most important extensional region in the world. WesternAnatolia where is located on the eastern part of the Aegean arc showing highly extended atrending N-S direction includes E-W trending horst-graben structures because of N-S trendingextensional regime. The basement rocks in the studied area are characterized by Menderes massif. NeogeneAydoğdu Formation, Quaternary terrace and alluvium unconformably overlie the metamorficrocks. Metamorfic rocks consist of schist, marble and phyllites. Aydoğdu Formation is mainlymade up of immature alluvial fan deposits and its components are from Menderesmetamorphic rocks. The youngest sediments in the study area are terrace and alluvium. Thenormal faults which produced step-like structure in the area constitute the basic structurelines. The main strikes of the normal faults are NE-SW, E-W, NW-SE and N-S. Strike-slipfaults with fractures crop out in the restricted area. Thrust fault zone, which has smalloutcrops, is located on the north of Sekiköy. Caolinizations have been observed along thefault zone. The study area was exposed N-S compressional regime which was effective in almost all partsof the western Anatolia before Middle Miocene. Then the N-S trending extensional regimewas effective after the compressional regime. Keywords: Western Anatolia, Küçük Menderes Graben, Neogene, Tectonic, Aydogdu, Izmir
