Abstract (EN)
Objective: In our study, it was aimed to reveal the antimicrobial activities of some antiseptic disinfectants used in hospitals against standard strains of bacterial nosocomial infections at different concentrations and durations. Materials and Methods: In this thesis study, antimicrobial activity of disinfectants such as ethyl alcohol, povidone iodine, hydrogen peroxide, glutaraldehyde, benzalcholium chloride, lysole, chlorhexidine and hypochlorite were investigated against, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6539, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, ve Klebsiella pneumoniae 13883 standard strains at different concentrations and durations by the qualitative suspension method. Dilutions of 95% (undiluted), 70% and 50% were prepared for ethyl alcohol, and 1/10, 1/100 and 1/1000 dilutions were prepared for other disinfectants. The breeding time intervals were determined as 1-2-5-10-30 minutes, and the absence of growth at the end of the periods was interpreted as the bactericidal effect of the disinfectant as an evaluation criterion. Results: In this study, only 95% ethanol was detected as a disinfectant that inhibited the growth of all bacteria after 1 minute exposure in all dilutions. Glutaraldehyde (2%), which inhibited the growth of all bacteria in 1 minute at 1/10 dilution, was observed as the most effective disinfectant. It has been determined that 70% concentration of ethyl alcohol is suitable for contact with bacteria for at least 2 minutes. While sodium hypochlorite (5%) inhibited the growth of all bacteria with 1 minute contact when used in 1/10 dilution, it was found suitable to be applied for at least 5 minutes to kill all bacteria at 1/100 dilution. Conclusion: As a result, disinfection policy should be established in all hospitals in order to protect both patients and healthcare workers from nosocomial infections. It will be beneficial for each hospital to identify antiseptics and disinfectants effective against their own microorganisms, both for cost and for a safe health environment.
