Bazı elma çeşitlerinde soğuklama gereksinimlerinin saptanması ve subtropik koşullara uygunluğunun incelenmesi

This research was carried at the apple orchards of Research and ApplicationFarm of the Faculty of Agriculture at Cukurova University. Four years old trees ofRoyal Beauty Gala, Red Gala, Mitch Gala, Shiniga Gala, Brookfield Gala, SummerRed, Pink Lady, Vista Bella and Jerseymac cultivars on M9 apple rootstock wereexperimented to investigate the chilling requirements, growing degree hours (GDH)and some pomological and phenological fruit characteristics.Only Vista Bella broke dormancy (53.5 % green tip stage) among theexperimented apple cultivars. The others could not reach to 50 % of green tip stageunder controlled conditions.Chilling duration of Adana region during 2009-2010 winter period wasobtained to be 143 (CU) and 172 hours below 7.2ºC.High temperatures caused apple cultivars to break dormancy without gettingsufficient chilling. Although irregular flowering was seen among the apples becauseof the lack of chilling, average 8,53 kg/tree yield was obtained. Vista Bella was theearliest fruit, ripened on 12th of June. Brookfield Gala was found to be the mostproductive and good quality cultivar, ripened on 4th of August and gave 12,80 kg/treeyield.
