Investigation of the production and quality traits of some sugar beet varieties in Muş ecological conditions

Abstract (EN)

In plant production, determining the varieties suitable for the location and choosing the varieties with the best performance are among the top priorities. Muş province is a location with significant potential in terms of sugar beet production and performance evaluation of new varieties. For this purpose, this research was carried out in Muş ecological conditions in 2022 with 20 sugar beet varieties, 18 varieties of which are registered in Turkey and 2 of which are registered abroad, according to the Randomized Complete Block Design. In the research, yield and quality parameters of cultivars were examined. According to the results of variance analysis, it was determined that there were statistically significant differences at the level of 1% among the cultivars in terms of all the traits examined. According to the average data obtained in the study; bifurcation rate (%) 5.4-17.8, leaf yield 13.54-24.28 t ha-1, root yield 73.42-93.57 t ha-1, biological yield 90.29-118.26 t ha-1, presence of refined sugar (%) 16.1-18.9, brix rate 19.4-23.4 %, polar rate 16.8%-20.1, plant juice (use) purity 82.39- 88.10%, α-amino N (mg 100g beetroot-1) rate 0.0405-0.0498 and ash rate (%) 2.49- It varied between 3.35. According to the results of the research, in terms of root yield characteristics, Bernanche, Smilodon, Garrot, Chevalier, Taurus, Kuno and Molly varieties and in terms of Polar ratio, Orthega KWS, Cicogne, Exotique, Garrot, Terranova KWS, Emirata, Chevalier, Premmio, Tuna, Kuno and MA4071 varieties came to the fore. When the average data of all examined traits were evaluated together, Terranova KWS, Emirata and Taurus cultivars were evaluated as the most suitable cultivars. In the evaluation; It was concluded that Chevalier, Garrot, Kuno, Smilodon, Terranova KWS, Taurus, Emirata, Bernanche and MA4071 cultivars can be recommended for the ecological conditions of Muş province, but the study should be conducted in the following years for more definitive recommendations
