Conservation of wall paintings in certain historic architecture of Turkey: Problems-solving suggestions

With the effect of laws and international agreements which have been executed in recent years about conservation, conservation and restoration works seem to be in rapid change in Turkiye. Because of having been a neglected field in our country which is very rich in terms of historical artifacts, ongoing conservation and restoration works are stil not at the desired stage.Owing to the fact that conservation and restoration works require a structure built up of different disciplines and in addition to this, because an efficient infrastructure has not yet been set up in Turkey, bring along some problems. At the stage of application, laws and international agreements which were legislated without adding important requirements have not been satisfactory. Present-day problems occured for the reason that an effective education policy have not been conducted on the issue of conservation culture.In this thesis, it is intended to underline the problems encountered during the processes of conserving engraved and painted inscriptions on historical buildings and it is also aimed to suggest solutions by means of interviews made with officials of formal and civil foundations. The main aim is to determine the primary problems faced during the time frame between the decision to start conservation and restoration work and the completion of it. Accordingly, in the first chapter, definition and historical overview will be given, then in the second chapter, some of the buildings? restoration works on wall paintings are being emphassized, necessary processes about conservation and restoration works will be defined. Afterwards, regarding the data acquired by the interviews, essential issues will be disscussed and new suggestions will be given. In the third chapter, an inventory of project works and applications are given.
