Abstract (EN)

This research is a descriptive study aimed at evaluating teacher leadership and proficiency levels of physical education teachers working in Gaziantep province. The study was conducted on 217 (44 female, 173 male) physical education teachers who were working in schools affiliated to the Gaziantep Provincial National Education Directorate during the 2017-2018 academic year. Two scales were used as data collection tools in the study. The "Teacher Proficiency Scale" and the "Teacher Leadership Scale" and the "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher were used to determine some characteristics of the participants. The Pearson Correlation test was used to determine the relationship between the Teacher Competencies and the leadership roles, the Paired Sample t test for comparing the expectation and the perception scores of the teachers' leadership roles by calculating the percentages, frequencies and averages as statistical methods by using the SPSS 22.0 program in the statistical analysis of the data. Independent sample t test was used in the binary groups and One Way ANOVA analysis was used for the comparison of multiple groups. The Post Hoc Tukey LSD test was conducted to determine the difference between groups in multiple groups. As a result, it was determined that physical education teachers' perception and expectations about teacher leadership roles were generally high. However, when comparing the expectations and perception scores, it is concluded that the expectation scores are higher in terms of institutional development and professional development. It has been found out that the beliefs of the research group on teacher competencies are also very high. It has been determined that the expectations and perceptions of teacher leadership roles increase in cases where the physical education teachers' beliefs of competence increase. The beliefs of the male physical education teachers about the teacher competence and the teacher leadership roles are higher. The increase in the beliefs of the physical education teachers about the general teaching ability as the age groups increase.
