Professional problems and solution suggestions of physical education and sports teachers

This study aims to comprehensively identify the professional challenges faced by physical education and sports teachers working in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education and to develop solution-oriented recommendations. The research was conducted using a qualitative research design, specifically the document analysis method. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview form developed based on an extensive review of the literature. The study group consists of 20 volunteer physical education and sports teachers, 12 male and 8 female, who have completed ten years in the profession and work in different seniority and school types, and whose data were collected through faceto-face interviews conducted between July 19 and September 20, 2024. The interviews lasted an average of 45 minutes; the audio recordings were transcribed for analysis.The data were analyzed using content analysis in accordance with the framework proposed by Corbin and Strauss (2014). Meaningful expressions were first coded, and similar codes were then grouped into overarching themes. To enhance internal reliability, the codes and themes were reviewed by three academic experts, and necessary revisions were made through consensus. The findings revealed several key issues: school administrations often do not prioritize physical education and sports; there is a persistent lack of sports facilities, equipment, and materials; parents do not demonstrate adequate interest in the subject or encourage their children to participate in school sports; departmental meetings and the implementation of the Physical Fitness Report Card (SİFUK) are conducted ineffectively; and teachers report dissatisfaction with their professional rights and benefits. In conclusion, the study highlights the need for comprehensive policy and practical interventions at administrative, structural, and cultural levels to enhance the professional satisfaction of physical education and sports teachers and to strengthen the effectiveness of physical education within the broader educational curriculum. 2025, x + 78 Pages Keywords: Physical Education and Sport Teachers, Professional Problems, Solution Suggestions
