Examination of the relationship between self-efficacy beliefs and organizational commitment of physical education and sports teachers (example of Erzurum province)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between physical education and sports teachers' in Erzurum province self-efficacy beliefs and their organizational commitment. The research group consisted of 200 physical education and sports teachers actively working in public and private schools affiliated to Erzurum Provincial Directorate of National Education in the 2020-2021 academic year. Within the scope of the research, the personal information form created by the researcher, the "Teachers' Self-Efficacy Belief" scale developed by Çolak, Yorulmaz, and Altınkurt (2017) to measure teachers' self-efficacy beliefs, and the validity and reliability study to measure teachers' organizational commitment levels, Üstüner (2009) "Teachers' Organizational Commitment Scale" was used. The skewness and kurtosis values of the scales were examined to see if they showed a normal distribution. Pearson correlation technique was used to examine the relationship between the total score from the Self-Efficacy Belief scale and the scores from its sub-dimensions and the total score from the organizational commitment scale. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique was used to determine the source of the significant difference between the mean scores of self-efficacy beliefs according to organizational commitment levels, and the Games-Howell post-doc test was used to determine from which groups the difference originated. As a result of the findings, it was seen that there was a low level of relationship between the self-efficacy beliefs of physical education and sports teachers and their organizational commitment. This result was thought to be caused by the personal gains and professional growth of physical education and sports teachers due to the nature of sports.
