Evaluation of physical education and sport teacher license program

Purpose: In this study, it is aimed to evaluate physical education and teaching of sport degree program which has being implemented in Turkey since 1998. Material and Method: The embedded design of the mixed method research model, in which qualitative and quantitative research methods are used together, is used in the research. The research sample consists of 302 university lecturers in Turkey and 458 physical education teachers working in high / middle schools. During the data analysis; quantitative data is analyzed according to descriptive analysis, qualitative data is analyzed according to descriptive and content analysis. Findings: According to the results of the research; program instructors and teachers think that the most important lessons among the other lessons in the degree program are Physical Education and Basis of Sports, Health Information and First Aid, Athletics, Psychomotor Development, Educational Games, Effective Communication Skills, Scientific Research Methods and Teaching Practice. The lessons of which requirement degrees are the lowest according to lecturers are Artistic Gymnastics, Atatürk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution, History of Turkish Education, Basic Music Education and Turkish Education System and School Administration. According to the teachers; in addition to these lessons, Research Project, Computer, Turkish, Foreign Language, Turkish Education System and School Management, and Turkish Education History courses have the lowest requirement ratio. Conclusion: As a result of the research; it was determined that the applied courses in the degree program are inadequate, the courses in the general culture area are sufficient but these courses should be more selective, the courses related with teaching pedagogy cannot be adapted to Physical Education lessons and the teaching practices are inadequate. According to these results; it can be said that the degree program of physical education and sport teacher should be updated
