Abstract (EN)
By the 18th century, the science of eloquence had reached its golden age and produced its most important works. In this century, telhis, commentaries and glosses were being written on works that are now considered classics of eloquence. In this way, it became easier to memorize, understand and learn the classical works of eloquence. Mahmūd al-Antāqī (d.1160/1747) was an Ottoman madrasa teacher who was born in Antakya in the 18th century and continued his teaching career in Aleppo. Risālat al-istiʿāra, which we think he wrote in Aleppo to teach the science of rhetoric to his students, is a work that proves the subjects of Isti`āra and its types, the opinions of rhetoric scholars on isti`āra, the relations of metaphor and allegory with examples from verses, hadiths and Arabic poetry. In this work, the author Mahmūd al-Antāki tried to explain the relevance of metaphor one by one. For this reason, the work was named "Metn al-'Alaqa" after the author's death. He also provided examples for almost all of the topics. He briefly touched on the subject of kināya. Famous linguistic scholars such as Ali Kushcu (d.879/1474) and Abu'l-Lays al-Samarqandī (d.888/1483) also wrote works with similar titles and dealing with similar topics as Risālat al-istiʿāra. Although the author is not as famous as the scholars mentioned above, this work has become as famous as the works of other linguists. It is even taught in madrasas today as a basic level work of rhetoric. The fact that it has been taught in madrasas from the day it was written until today is important in terms of revealing the value of the work. Our study consists of an introduction and three chapters. After a short introduction in which information is given about the importance and purpose of the research, method, method of analysis and scope, the first chapter focuses on `alāqa in the science of eloquence, and the second chapter focuses on Mahmūd al-Antāqī and his work Risālat al-istiʿāra. In this section, information about the author's life obtained from a limited number of sources was tried to be presented. The third part deals with the critical edition and translation of Risālat al-istiʿāra. The analysis of Risālat al-istiʿāra has been the focus of the study. The principles of critical edition of the work are based on the principles of critical edition determined in the Guidelines for the Guidelines for the Critical Edition published by ISAM. After the critical edition of the work, the work was translated and a comparative text was tried to be presented to researchers who want to work in this field. The commentaries and glosses written on Risālat al-istiʿāra have been identified and summarized information about these works has been presented. Keywords: Rhetoric, Majāz, `Alaqa, Mahmūd al-Antāqī, Risālat al-istiʿāra.
