Abstract (EN)
This work aimed to investigate the innovative use of sound in documentary filmmaking with a perspective inspired by contemporary art. Within this framework, differences in the approach between documentary cinema throughout its history and the use of sound via a specific contemporary work of art is investigated. The research process included literature review on the use of sound in cinema, documentary film and variations Bergama Stereo, Bergama Stereotype, Bergama Stereo: Bergama by Cevdet Erek, an artist who uses sound frequently in his artistic practice and his creations, in addition to an interview with Cevdet Erek. Within the scope of this work, sound in documentary cinema; its contribution to perception of reality, creation of space or its ability to enhance the perception of pre-existing space or spectating experience are evaluated. As a result of this research, it is believed that sound in documentary cinema can question the representation of reality and contribute to the representation of reality which is left outside the realm of images. This research revealed, even though reality as a concept claims objectivity, due to the representational function engrained in the nature of documentary cinema, can offer a limited reality and involves subjective perspective/s. It's concluded that, getting close to representing reality in documentary cinema, can only be possible by admitting that such reality is presented through subjective perspective/s.
