Abstract (EN)

This study explains what a documentary film is, how it came about, what types of documentaries are, and how its visual design, edited and story is processed through sample documentaries. The first examples of Turkish documentary is mentioned and the differences between the documentaries produced by the free market and public broadcasting in terms of the language and purpose of the documentary were examined. The fictional structure of a movie is far from the nature of the documentary. In this study, what kind of a common point a documentary has in common with the rules applied in the cinema in terms of visual design has been tried to be put forward technically. Private channels avoid to produced documentary because of concerns such as profitability, market conditions and ratings but TRT allocated large budgets, recruited staff and opened thematic channels and produced documentaries in terms of public broadcasting. In this thesis, the language and technical features of these productions were explained on the basis of examples on Su Savaşları (2019) and Keçenin Teri (1989).
