The effect of relationship-related obsessive-compulsive symptoms, irrational beliefs on relationship satisfaction in emerging adulthood romantic relationships

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of irrational beliefs on satisfaction in romantic relationships according to the relationship-related obssesivecompulsive symptoms in emerging adulthood. Additonal aim of this study is to examine these variables accaording to the demographic variables. A total of 291 participants were included in the study, and the data collection tools used were the Socio-Demographic Information Form, "Romantic Relationship Obsessions and Compulsions Scale", "Partner Related Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory", "Irrational Romantic Relationship beliefs Inventory", and "Relationship Satisfaction Scale". Spearman correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationships between participants' romantic and partner-focused obsessive-compulsive symptoms, irrational beliefs in romantic relationships, and relationship satisfaction. According to the results, there was a significant negative linear relationship between scores of romantic and partner-focused obsessions and compulsions, and scores of relationship satisfaction. Additionally, there was a negative linear relationship between relationship satisfaction scores and scores of irrational beliefs in romantic relationships. In multiple linear regression analysis, the variables predicting relationship satisfaction were found to be love for the partner, social time usage, excessive expectations, emotional stability, and relationship duration. Increases in scores derived from the sub-dimensions of love for the partner, social time usage, and emotional stability were found to decrease relationship satisfaction. On the other hand, an increase in scores derived from the sub-dimension of excessive expectations and the duration of the relationship was found to increase relationship satisfaction.
